WORLDS KEPT THEM APART.

DESTINY BROUGHT THEM TOGETHER.

Aria has lived her whole life in the protected dome of Reverie. Her entire world confined to its spaces, she’s never thought to dream of what lies beyond its doors. So when her mother goes missing, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland long enough to find her are slim.

Then Aria meets an outsider named Perry. He’s searching for someone too. He’s also wild – a savage – but might be her best hope at staying alive.

If they can survive, they are each other’s best hope for finding answers. (Goodreads)

Under the Never Sky is a fantastic debut that sneaks up on you… I had a hard time settling into the story in the beginning, but it got better and better until I realized that I was finding excuses to continue listening! I became engrossed with Rossi’s wonderful characters, and the futuristic world she created.

Aria is a dweller, a girl born and raised within the virtual realms of a pod called Reverie where she was taught that the outside wasteland is dangerous. Perry is an outsider, a savage that lives in the wild as part of a tribe, and in constant danger of Aether storms. Aria and Perry are complete opposites, but when circumstances force them to become allies and set them on an adventure, they can’t deny the bond that forms between them.

Under the Never Sky has a great plot, but the world is built slowly… It’s a bit confusing in the beginning, and you’re left with several questions at the end. That said, I loved the ending and can’t wait to see what Rossi has in store for us in the rest of the series.

Aria and Perry tell the story of Under the Never Sky in alternating perspectives. I have to admit that I was a little disappointed that there weren’t two narrators. However, it’s written in the third person, so it does make sense to only have one narrator. Bernadette Dunne Flagler has a smooth tone, and did well with the narration.

This is a captivating mash up of dystopian/sci-fi, romance, adventure, and fantasy that you don’t want to miss! Be sure to check out the trailer below.

I felt exactly the same way about Under the Never Sky. Took a while to get going (about 100 pages in physical book form, not sure what that equates to in audio), but once it did, it was really enjoyable. I’m looking forward to the next one.

I usually don’t like alternating perspectives, but I really enjoyed this book. I agree the world building was slow, but I appreciated that the author showed the reader and gave hints, rather than a “telling” description.

There was some really great world building in this novel. I always find novels will complex world building a little more difficult to get into on audio. Glad to hear this one worked out
