Hi there! Audiobook Week, hosted by Jen @ Devourer of Books, is here! YAY! Unless this is your first time stopping by A Book and a Latte you probably know that I’m a HUGE fan of audiobooks. I was first introduced to them as a kid during a long road trip, and I’ve been a fan ever since.

I’m usually always listening to an audiobook. I listen to them while driving, cooking, cleaning dishes, working out, showering, cleaning house, and doing lawn work! They can usually make any mundane task bearable. I feel super productive listening to a book while completing chores because not only am I checking things off my to-do list, I’m also reading! If you haven’t jumped on the audio band wagon, I highly encourage you to give them a try.

Today’s discussion for Audiobook Week is “2011-2012 Audiobook Year”. In the past year I’ve listened to 42 audiobooks (16 in 2012)! Here are some stand-out ones that I fell in love with this year, and HIGHLY recommend (in no particular order). Links go to my review post if available, or Goodreads.

You can see which audiobooks I’ve listened to and rated/reviewed on my “audiobook” shelf on Goodreads. Also, my audiobook review posts are denoted with a star (*) after the title on my review archive page. This year, I decided to host a YA Audiobook Challenge… I read/listen to primarily young adult books, and couldn’t find a challenge dedicated to YA audiobooks, so I started one! If interested, you can find out all the details on the challenge’s page – there’s still time to join us!

So… what about you?! Are you a long time fan, or are you new to listening to audiobooks? What were some of your favorite listens this past year? I’m always looking for recommendations!

Happy Audiobook Week!

I’m very new to audiobooks! I recently listened to A Spy in the House by YS Lee, and now I’m listening to The Ice Princess by Camilla Lackberg. 🙂

Thanks for the awesome recs! I totally agree about The Scorpio Races and Ready Player One, both are wonderful. And Blood Red Road is perfect for audio since it’s hard for some readers to get past the writing style- no quotation marks, and words spelled phonetically. I have the Amy & Roger audiobook, but I haven’t fit it in yet – I loved the book though.
    Have a great audiobook week!

  3. Great picks! I’m new to audiobooks this year and have listened to 15 so far! They’re awesome. I just finished listening to Ready Player One the other day and LOVED it. Wil Wheaton made an awesome narrator and I’m sure that’s a book I’m going to listen to again and again. Another favourite of mine is Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green and David Levithan … my review was just posted today!

So happy for audiobook week … I plan to mark more on my TBR list AND my wishlist on Audible and will be making much use of my online library account. 🙂

I find I gravitate to YA audios as well. I’m only in the car a maximum of 30-40 minutes a day so adult fiction can seem somewhat intimidating. I did listen to Ready Player One and that went smoothly, but One Day was a total fail.

  7. I only occasionally listened to audiobooks before last year. But, now I’m really getting into them. I am listening to Blood Red Road right now (a reread for me) and I’m loving it!

I’m so excited to see Ready Player One on so many lists. I’m needing a new audiobook and that one has been on my TBR for a while now.

The only other one above that I’ve listened to is Blood Red Road, which I enjoyed at first, but found it was moving too slowly for me and stopped listening. Someday I’ll hop back in, though possibly in book form.

I loved Ready Player One. I don’t think I laughed so hard at Bossypants when I listened to it, as I did Ready Player One.

I might have to try Blood Red Road sometime. Most of the bloggers seem to love it.
