Camden Pike has been grief-stricken since his girlfriend, Viv, died. Viv was the last good thing in his life: helping him rebuild his identity after a career-ending football injury, picking up the pieces when his home life shattered, and healing his pain long after the meds wore off. And now, he’d give anything for one more glimpse of her. But when Cam makes a visit to the site of Viv’s deadly car accident, he sees some kind of apparition. And it isn’t Viv.

The apparition’s name is Nina, and she’s not a ghost. She’s a girl from a parallel world, and in this world, Viv is still alive. Cam can’t believe his wildest dreams have come true. All he can focus on is getting his girlfriend back, no matter the cost. But things are different in this other world: Viv and Cam have both made very different choices, things between them have changed in unexpected ways, and Viv isn’t the same girl he remembers. Nina is keeping some dangerous secrets, too, and the window between the worlds is shrinking every day. As Cam comes to terms with who this Viv has become and the part Nina played in his parallel story, he’s forced to choose—stay with Viv or let her go—before the window closes between them once and for all. (Goodreads)

Through to You is a unique and fresh sci-fi/paranormal story about what it would be like to have a second chance… in a parallel universe. Cam, the protagonist, lost his girlfriend Viv in a tragic car accident that he believes he caused. He’s overcome with guilt and grief, and would do anything to have her back. When he sees Nina disappear into what he discovers is a parallel universe where Viv is still alive, he is desperate to find her and be with her again.

I thought Emily Hainsworth did a fantastic job with characterization. Cam’s grief was palpable, and all the characters were solid. I liked how she worked in possessiveness and love, and made me evaluate those emotions and how they do, or don’t, fit together. I really enjoyed the dynamics between Cam, Nina, and Viv, and also Cam and his mother.

When I finished Through to You, I just wanted to talk to someone about it and discuss all the intricacies of parallel universes! It made me analyze how our personalities form, and think about the decisions that shape our lives. If you’re concurrently in multiple dimensions and have the same name and parents, are you really the same person? What makes you, you? I love when a book stirs up so much emotion and thought, that I think about it long after I’ve read the last page. I can’t wait to read more from Emily Hainsworth!

  2. I’ve read a couple of reviews for this book already. Sounds really really good, and you brought up great points. I love books that make you think of things outside of the book. I hope this book does the same for me!
