She writes in a variety of genres–children’s books, YA, adult fiction, devotionals and more. Lisa lives with her husband, Tim, three children, and a fluffy white dog in Colorado. Are you a planner (outline, etc.) or do you “pants” it?

A bit of both. For the most part, I’m a pantser, but when the research or fictional world demands it, some planning is vital, if I don’t want to rewrite a ton of it.

Do you write daily or sporadically when you’re inspired?

I write only when I’m within 2-3 months of deadline. I research and rest up until that point.

What time of day do you find you write best? Or you enjoy more?

Noon-6pm; I get all my “housekeeping” done in the am–chores at home, email, Twitter, Facebook, marketing, then I’m good to go!

Where is your favorite place to write?

The library. At home, I just get too distracted.

What tool(s) do you use to write? Microsoft Word, Pages, Scrivener, typewriter, pen and paper, and/or napkins/toilet paper?

Notes on paper. Laptop to write.

What are you thoughts on traditional publishing vs. self-publishing?

It’s radically changed over the last couple of years. Now I suggest everyone pursue traditional publishing but educate yourself on self-publishing. Then you can decide for yourself!

The only books that we haven’t read yet our bourne and tributary because i don’t have the means to access them…. unlike a lot of people i was sad to find that i could no longer get the books at my local christian bookstore as that was the easiest way i could keep up with the series… 🙁

It seems crazy that you wait until two or three months for a deadline! I wonder if that ever makes you feel overly chaotic! And the library is a great place to pick to write! I would get distracted by all the books though… 😀

  5. Len D. says:

I know about being distracted…aside from writer’s block, it’s another hurdle in writing!

What sound advice, especially about planning and pantsing and also about how she goes to the library because it’s quiet.

    Thank you:)

I have been hearing a lot about self publishing and it seems like a lot of authors like it but are not sure about it. So they are not sure how to give their opinion about it, because it takes a lot of research and a lot of moxy.

This is one of those rare series that once you start, you just can’t put it down! I’ve been a huge fan of these books since the the first one went on sale at amazon, and I stumble upon waterfall late one night. From there it has been lots of nail bitting to wait for each book to come out, I secretly hope the series never ends. For those of you who are just staring these books, you’re lucky that you don’t have to wait on each book, but it was worth it, trust me!

  18. Rebekah Gyger says:
