If fate sent you an email, would you answer? When teenage movie star Graham Larkin accidentally sends small town girl Ellie O’Neill an email about his pet pig, the two seventeen-year-olds strike up a witty and unforgettable correspondence, discussing everything under the sun, except for their names or backgrounds. Then Graham finds out that Ellie’s Maine hometown is the perfect location for his latest film, and he decides to take their relationship from online to in-person. But can a star as famous as Graham really start a relationship with an ordinary girl like Ellie? And why does Ellie want to avoid the media’s spotlight at all costs? (Goodreads)

This is What Happy Looks Like was such a fun read! I became a fan of Jennifer E. Smith after reading, or rather devouring, The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight (click for my review). I knew as soon as I heard she was coming out with new YA title that I must read it. Oh, and the cover, it’s freaking awesome.

Told in alternating perspectives between Ellie and Graham, This is What Happy Looks Like is a sweet romance between Ellie, a girl living in the Middle of No-Where, Maine, and Graham Larkin, a famous movie star and teen heartthrob, living in Middle of Everything, Los Angeles. I loved that this story was told in dual perspectives! I was able to quickly connect with Ellie, and I really enjoyed seeing what it was like for Graham to be famous… Where nothing is private, and how alone he felt even though he was admired by so many.

When Graham’s upcoming movie just happens to start filming in Ellie’s little town, they finally meet, and things get complicated… One of my favorite things about this book is that it’s set in a small tourist town in Maine. I could smell the sea, and picture the main street with its little shops. And seriously, I’m dying for a Lobster Roll, ice cream, and a long walk along its rocky beach right now.

If you’re a fan of young adult contemporary romance, then you don’t want to miss This is What Happy Looks Like!

I really enjoyed this one too. I love that Graham is so normal even though he’s a famous movie star. My review goes up really soon! (Tomorrow, I think.)

I really liked the dual perspectives as well, especially since they both come from such different backgrounds. Really allowed you to examine the difficulties (and highlights) of the relationship from all angles!
