When she least expects it, sixteen-year old Holly Burton’s unremarkable life is shaken to the core. A vision of the mother Holly never knew leaves her questioning everything she believes.

Eager for answers, Holly enrolls at a boarding school for highly gifted students in Wolfebane, New Hampshire. But things will get worse before they get better, as Holly accidentally transports to a parallel existence where she’s confronted by a dark and ancient evil.

With the help of Joss, a sexy alpha warrior sworn to protect her, and her new BFF, the equally swoon-worthy Quinn, Holly faces her fears and an unlikely adversary in a showdown that is worse than anything she could’ve possibly imagined …

LOTTO NUMBERS, ANYONE?

I used to laugh at my Nan when she said she could predict the future. That was until I started having visions, my Nan had a stroke and I was enrolled at C.U.L.T., a boarding school for freaks like me.

So guess it’s no great surprise that one of my kooky subjects is Divination.

The art of foretelling the future.

I hate it.

Because if I was any good at this I could predict my own future, one that didn’t involve being bound to a sun god, being his Scion, being able to teleport to Eiros, NYC’s Innerworld and being the only one to defeat the Lord of Darkness and save the world.

It doesn’t help that my divination teacher, Mr. Crane, is a loser who hates my guts.

Apparently there are loads of different ways to tell the future. So far I’ve tried:

  • Crystallomancy: which is basically crystal gazing. Woo hoo.
  • Tephromancy: burning tree bark and reading signs in the ashes (okay, so this method? Seriously freaked me out. I saw scary stuff. That makes sense later in the book but oh boy.)

Stuff I haven’t tried (but I’m sure that torture-master author Nicola Marsh will probably put me through in the sequels) is:

  • Oculomancy: determining events by looking deep into eyes (I actually wouldn’t mind this one if I got to stare into Joss (my hot warrior)’s eyes. For a long time preferably. Did I mention how hot he is?
  • Onychomancy: symbols and signs of the future revealed by sunlight on fingernails. Freaky!
  • Dendromancy: studying oak or mistletoe parts for signs of the future. Hmm…mistletoe has possibilities if Joss is around…

I can’t predict lotto numbers but some of the stuff I see in visions in SCION OF THE SUN? Let’s just say the future is seriously scary!

From the cover, I wouldn’t expect this voice to be as funny as it is. I’ll have to check it out.
