Hollie Porter is the chairwoman of Generation Disillusioned: at twenty-five years old, she’s saddled with a job she hates, a boyfriend who’s all wrong for her, and a vexing inability to say no. She’s already near her breaking point, so when one caller too many kicks the bucket during Hollie’s 911 shift, she cashes in the Sweethearts’ Spa & Stay gift certificate from her dad and heads to Revelation Cove, British Columbia. One caveat: she’s going solo. Any sweethearts will have to be found on site.

Hollie hopes to find her beloved otters in the wilds of the Great White North, but instead she’s providing comic relief for staff and guests alike. Even Concierge Ryan, a former NHL star with bad knees and broken dreams, can’t stop her from stumbling from one (mis)adventure to another. Just when Hollie starts to think that a change of venue doesn’t mean a change in circumstances, the island works its charm and she starts to think she might have found the rejuvenation she so desperately desires. But then an uninvited guest crashes the party, forcing her to step out of the discomfort zone where she dwells and save the day … and maybe even herself in the process. (Goodreads)

Thank you so much to the author for surprise gifting me Must Love Otters (after I added it to my Amazon wish list)! It was exactly what I needed while I was really sick with a cold/flu, because it had me laughing out loud. This is such a cute story and it allowed me to escape to the Pacific Northwest and British Columbia with these characters.

I have to admit that it took me a while to warm up to the protagonist, Hollie. However, I think that’s because she was so unhappy in the beginning of the book and her unhappiness made her so critical of everything. She picked apart her co-workers and everyone she came across, naming every negative thing about them she could find… and that just rubbed me the wrong way. But as the story developed that trait faded, and I was wrapped up in her journey.

Must Love Otters is about taking chances, seeking out what makes you happy, and finding your own path. The situations Hollie found herself in literally had me laughing out loud (and waking my sleeping husband), and I loved Hollie and Ryan together! If you’re looking for a fun book to escape into for a while, look no further.
