Unforgotten (Unremembered #2)Unforgotten

by Jessica Brody

Some memories are better left forgotten…

After a daring escape from the scientists at Diotech who created her, Seraphina believes she is finally safe from the horrors of her past. But new threats await Sera and her boyfriend, Zen, at every turn as Zen falls prey to a mysterious illness and Sera’s extraordinary abilities make it more and more difficult to stay hidden. Meanwhile, Diotech has developed a dangerous new weapon designed to apprehend her. A weapon that even Sera will be powerless to stop. Her only hope of saving Zen’s life and defeating the company that made her is a secret buried deep within her mind. A secret that Diotech will kill to protect. And it won’t stay forgotten for long.

Packed with mystery, suspense, and romance, this riveting second installment of Jessica Brody’s Unremembered trilogy delivers more heart-pounding action as loyalties are tested, love becomes a weapon, and no one’s memories are safe.

Q & A with Jessica Brody

In the length of a tweet (140 characters), tell us about your book.

#Unforgotten: It’s like Unremembered but with more action, more memory manipulation, more sci-fi elements, and of course, more kissing.

If you were stranded on a desert island what are 3 things you’d want to have with you?

My iPad, a solar charger, and a transession gene (if you’ve read Unremembered, you’ll know that this will solve all my problems.)

If you could have any superpower what would you choose?

Immunity to calories. Then I could eat everything I want and never gain a pound. Did anyone ever see the movie Defending Your Life? It takes place in a world between earth and heaven and the characters get to eat anything they want and never gain weight and always feel fantastic. This is my heaven.

Although I answered this question on a panel once and a fellow author brought up a good point. If I have immunity to calories then I’d quickly die because my body couldn’t absorb nutrients. I choose to ignore this tiny, insignificant detail.

What are your pet peeves?

People who make generalizations about things and then judge them. I hate ALL people who do that. 😉

What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Don’t be afraid to write badly. Every single published author that you love has written a terrible rough draft. Don’t worry about making it pretty on the first round. Worry about finishing it. You can’t decorate a house until it’s built. Finish the book first, get the story down on paper, then go back and worry about whether or not it’s good.

Gosh, if only I had written a really long, detailed blog post about this very topic. Oh wait, I did. 🙂 http://www.jessicabrody.com/2014/01/drunk-monkeys-wrote-my-first-draft-the-art-of-finishing-a-book/

What’s your favorite quote?

“Every worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph: a beginning, a struggle, and a victory.” – Mahatma Gandhi

I love this quote. It so perfectly describes my process of writing a novel. The beginning (where everything is fresh and fun and new and exciting), the struggle (where I hate this book more than anything, want to toss it into the sea, and never write another word for the rest of my life) and the victory (where I finally finish, look back and think, oh, that wasn’t so bad!)

It also, coincidentally, describes the perfect three act structure of a story. Hmmm….

As a kid, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?

When I was 7, I wanted to be a writer. Then around age 12, I wanted to be a pop star. Then at age 20, I wanted to be a member of the Spice Girls. Then at age 20 and 1 month, I wanted to be an important business woman who wore a suit to an office every day (which I did become). Then at age 26, I quit my job and started writing again.

Life lesson: Stick with what you know at age 7. Clearly, that’s when you’re the wisest.

If a movie was made about your life, who would you want to play you and why?

Jennifer Garner. Just because I love her so much. And if she accepted the role, then she’d have to come over to my house and ask me questions about my life and we’d have tea and drink wine and watch Sex and the City and become BFFs and get a beach house together and…wait, what was the question?

Do you have a hidden talent?

I can speak with a (questionably) convincing British accent. Although it’s not very hidden. I break it out all the time, much to the annoyance of the people around me. I used to like to pretend I was British on airplanes and speak with the accent. Until I sat next to a real Brit and he totally called me out. It was mortifying.

Do you have any pets?

Anyone who follows me on Instagram knows about my four dogs. I post photos of them all the time! Here’s a pic of two of them being suuuper lazy on the couch.

Jessica Brody knew from a young age that she wanted to be a writer. She started self “publishing” her own books when she was seven years old, binding the pages together with cardboard, wallpaper samples and electrical tape.

After graduating from Smith College in 2001 where she double majored in Economics and French and minored in Japanese, Jessica later went on to work for MGM Studios as a Manager of Acquisitions and Business Development. In May of 2005, Jessica quit her job to follow her dream of becoming a published author.

In four short years , Jessica has sold nine novels (two adult novels to St. Martin’s Press and seven young adult novels to Farrar, Straus, Giroux.) The Fidelity Files, her debut, (which was recently optioned for film) released in stores (in real binding) in June of 2008 and the follow-up, Love Under Cover (aka The Good Girl’s Guide to Bad Men in the UK) in November 2009. The Karma Club, Jessica’s debut young adult novel released in April of 2010 and her second YA release, My Life Undecided hit bookstores in June 2011.

52 Reasons to Hate My Father released in July 2012 and Unremembered, the first book in a new teen sci-fi/suspense trilogy, is now out in stores, while its anticipated sequel, Unforgotten, will be released on February 25, 2014.

Jessica now works full time as a writer and producer. She currently splits her time between Los Angeles and Colorado.
