Can't Look Away by Donna Cooner

I’m so excited to be part of Donna Cooners’s Blog Tour for CAN’T LOOK AWAY, and have her as a guest today. Donna stopped by to tell us her favorite book to movie adaptations, so check out her post below and be sure to enter the giveaway!

Can't Look Away by Donna CoonerTorrey Grey is famous. At least, on the internet. Thousands of people watch her popular videos on fashion and beauty. But when Torrey’s sister is killed in an accident — maybe because of Torrey and her videos — Torrey’s perfect world implodes.

Now, strangers online are bashing Torrey. And at her new school, she doesn’t know who to trust. Is queen bee Blair only being sweet because of Torrey’s internet infamy? What about Raylene, who is decidedly unpopular, but seems accepts Torrey for who she is? And then there’s Luis, with his brooding dark eyes, whose family runs the local funeral home. Torrey finds herself drawn to Luis, and his fascinating stories about El dio de los Muertos, the Day of the Dead.

As the Day of the Dead draws near, Torrey will have to really look at her own feelings about death, and life, and everything in between. Can she learn to mourn her sister out of the public eye?

My Favorite Book to Movie Adaptations

by Donna Cooner

I love movie adaptations that confirm and expand the mental images I create when reading.  Sometimes a movie will build images even clearer and more connected to the text than what I imagined in the first place, but often I don’t find that to be true.  Catching Fire was a wonderful recent favorite that was a great example of a movie that brings a book to life.  The arena was so clearly imagined on film that I actually understood the setting better than when I read the text—a wonderful sign of a great cinematic adaptation.  However, my all-time favorite movie adaptation has to be To Kill a Mockingbird.  It perfectly captures the author’s voice in every way and I will forever think of Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch.

  3. Carl says:

I agree with Donna, To Kill a Mockingbird may be the most perfect book to movie adaptation ever. The story is told impeccably, the characters are spot on, and the suspenseful elements generate exactly the same feeling as the book. Thanks

  4. Kate I. says:

As a Texas native and California resident, I’d be intrigued by a guy who tells tales relating to el Día de los Muertos. I have an interest in the macabre, which would explain that my favorite book-to-film adaptation is Stephen King’s “Misery” (though I agree that the best is TKAM).
