Top Ten Childhood Favorites
(in no particular order)

I loved, loved, loved this book as a kid. I bet I read it a minimum of 50 times! I actually just re-read it last summer when we went to Prince Edward Island on vacation (where this takes place)! I had forgotten how romantic and lyrical the writing was… but really, it was a joy to read it again as an adult.

2. The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
This is another book that I re-read over and over as a child. Sadly, when I read it as an adult it didn’t quite mean the same to me. I still love it though and I treasure my well worn hardbound copy!

3. The Velveteen Rabbit
by Margery Williams Bianco
Ohmygoodness… this book… still makes me cry! One of my earliest memories of reading is when I read this with my mother. It’s a wonderful story. I dare anyone that loved a stuffed animal as a child to read it and not cry!

4. The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein
This was another absolute favorite of mine. I think this book had a huge part in me growing up to be a tree hugger. Really!

5. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
This book is such a classic. I really want to re-read it! I think I’ve read every book ever written by Hinton… they are all so, so good.

6. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle
Oh, how I loved this story as a kid… I was really sad when I tried to re-read it a few years ago and couldn’t get into it. Really sad.

7. The Babysitters Club Series by Ann M. Martin
This was the first series I ever became addicted to!

8. Are You There God? It’s me, Margaret
by Judy Blume
This was one of my favorites, but really, I loved anything by Judy Blume – Superfudge, Blubber…

9. The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
Another classic!

10. The Boxcar Children
by Gertrude ChandlerWarner
I don’t really remember much about this book except that they lived in a boxcar that I could imagine completely. After reading this I’d look at anything and try and imagine it as a home to live in :).

It was fun making this list… Sharing these books brought back a lot of good memories! What were some of your childhood favorites?
