In the City of Lights, two star-crossed lovers battle a fate that is destined to tear them apart again and again for eternity.
When Kate Mercier's parents die in a tragic car accident, she leaves her life--and memories--behind to live with her grandparents in Paris. For Kate, the only way to survive her pain is escaping into the world of books and Parisian art. Until she meets Vincent.
Mysterious, charming, and devastatingly handsome, Vincent threatens to melt the ice around Kate's guarded heart with just his smile. As she begins to fall in love with Vincent, Kate discovers that he's a revenant--an undead being whose fate forces him to sacrifice himself over and over again to save the lives of others. Vincent and those like him are bound in a centuries-old war against a group of evil revenants who exist only to murder and betray. Kate soon realizes that if she follows her heart, she may never be safe again. (Goodreads)
I really enjoyed this book! I had no idea what revenants were before I started reading… Plum may have created them but I’m not sure. I loved how the mystery of revenants were revealed to Kate and the reader. The mythology was fantastic, and the story is well written. It was so fun to learn about revenants, and for me, that’s what set this story apart from other YA paranormal romances. I won’t say much else, because I don’t want to ruin the delicious surprise of learning about them!
Die For Me has a great cast of characters. After the protagonist, Kate, and her sister Georgia tragically lose their parents, they move to Paris to live with their grandparents. Kate and Georgia are complete opposites. Kate loves reading and art while Georgia is the social butterfly that seeks out parties and clubs. They both grieve in their own way… and while Kate is trying to pull herself together, she meets Vincent – the dark and mysterious hot guy (obviously!). I also really enjoyed getting to know Jules and Ambrose, and Charlotte who are part of Vincent’s “kindred”.
I have to say… that I LOVED that the romantic, charming, and mysterious city of Paris was the setting for this story! I felt like I was back there again, and seriously, reading this book made me crave crepes!
If you’re a fan of paranormal romances, you must pick up this book! Oh, and be sure to check out all the scrumptious extras on Amy Plum’s website, including a map of Paris with pictures of where certain events in Die For Me took place, Vincent’s POV, and more! This was a great debut for Amy Plum, and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
