Denver Comic Con 2012 ProgramLast weekend I attended the inaugural Denver Comic Con with Jessi from Otherwhere.co! It was fun, and a little crazy. Especially since DCC was the weekend after I returned from Book Expo America… which means I went to two conferences in the span of two weeks, three if you count BEA Blogger Conference separately!

This was my first ever comic con, and I didn’t prepare at all, besides looking forward to it and being ready to have fun. After rockin’ BEA, I just wanted to relax and take it all in, so I was really glad I could just tag along with Jessi who knows wayyyyy more about comics and this stuff than I do! The first comic I ever read was The Walking Dead and I just read the first 2 volumes over Christmas of 2011. So I’m a greeny to this world. This was a whole new level of geek-dom for me :).

I had such a good time. The panels were awesome, and all the artists we met were friendly and excited to be there! We went Friday evening/night, all day Saturday, and then most of Sunday too. Thankfully we were smart and did all of the musts (signatures, meet and greets, and purchases) on Friday when the crowds were the lightest, so we could just relax and enjoy the rest of the conference.

Here’s a list of highlights, mainly the panels we went to:

  •  James Marsters (Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 2 panels!)
  • Battlestar Galactica Universe with Aaron Douglas (he was straight up stand up comedy, 2 panels!)
  • New Horror and Urban Fantasy Lit panel
  • Whedonverse & Buffy Comics panel featuring the comic artists Georges Jeanty (Buffy Season 8 & 9) and  Rebekah Isaacs (Angel & Faith)
  • Kristin Bauer panel (True Blood)
  • Costumes galore – some pretty cool ones, others I wish I could erase from memory…

Here are some pictures from the weekend:

I was disappointed that Wil Wheaton had to cancel because of a filming conflict, along with the cast of The Walking Dead… which was a bummer considering those were the panels I was most excited to attend. There’s not much you can do about schedule conflicts, I just really hope TWD will be able to be at DCC next year.

The first ever Denver Comic Con was a success, and I can’t wait to see how it grows and changes next year…my guess is that it’ll be twice as big!

Sounds like it was awesome! I would have loved to sit in on the panels with James on them. I’m such a Buffy fan that it’s crazy. Bummer that Wil and The Walking Dead had to cancel though. 🙁
