I was thrilled to have the opportunity to attend the Denver Red-Carpet Screening for DIVERGENT last night! Ben Lloyd-Hughes and Christian Madsen, the actors that play Will and Al, were there for a Q&A and spoke to us a bit before the screening began.
DIVERGENT (Directed by Neil Burger)
In a world divided by factions based on virtues, Tris learns she’s Divergent and won’t fit in. When she discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and the mysterious Four must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it’s too late. (IMDB)
It was such a fun event, even though everything seemed to be running about an hour behind schedule. We arrived around 6:45PM and there was already a crowd of fans lining the red carpet. The energy was high, and some people were all dressed up for the event. I actually missed the Q&A because we’d already gotten in line for seats before the actors arrived (it was outside). But the guys talked to us briefly before the movie began and both seemed really nice and down to earth. I was surprised to receive a DIVERGENT tote bag full of goodies (thank you to the people that made that possible!), some of which I’ll be sharing with one lucky winner!
My Thoughts on the DIVERGENT Movie
The movie, in one word, is AWESOME!
I have to admit that I was worried about the casting, and I went in with no expectations. I haven’t read Divergent since spring of 2011, and though I was tempted to re-read it in preparation, I purposely didn’t so I wouldn’t be overly critical of the movie. I’m happy to say (and relieved) that the movie follows the book very closely (from what I can remember), the actors did a great job with the characters, and I was worried for nothing. The movie rocked – from the Dauntless pit looking exactly as I pictured it in my head, to being surprised by Shailene Woodley‘s performance as Tris (in the best way), to the music… it all came together. Go see it! I’ll most likely be seeing it again once it comes out, and I’m already anxiously waiting for the DVD release.
Giveaway
DIVERGENT t-shirt (large, unisex); Temporary Tattoos, and Chapstick.
Plus some other unrelated goodies (likely swag for other books!)
I haven’t seen the movie yet but I have seen the trailer. I love the part of the knife throwing seen and the comment that the divergent shows no fear.
I look forward to seeing this movie! I’m excited to see the scene at Navy Pier on the Ferris wheel! It looked like a lot of fun from the photos I saw on set! Thanks!
I am really looking forward to the zip-line and the Ferris Wheel scenes!
I don’t really have one. Just want to see how it comes together as to the book.
It’s hard to pinpoint any one scene I want to see, because there are so many great scenes in the book… As terrible as it is to say I think the battle at the end and Tris’s time with her parents is not necessarily what I’m looking forward to seeing but rather I think it’s going to be really affecting to see on-screen.

I’m not a super fan of this series, but I remember, while reading Divergent, thinking that it would be great as a movie – there’s so many action scenes that I would love to see on the big screen. So happy that someone made it happen, and that all the early reviews I’ve read have been super positive! 😀

The capture the flag scene.
My favorite part of the early screening was when Four takes his shirt off and its not because this is some epic part of the movie it was because the whole theater did one giant collective breath and then this lady screamed touch him, touch him and when Tris does every woman in the theater did a huge collective sigh…it was hilarious and I didn’t post any spoilers this way:)
I love divergent!
I haven’t been able to see it yet 🙁 . I would love to though!
My favorite scene was Four’s fear landscape!
I think I’m looking forward to the ferris wheel scene the most!
