JOYRIDE by Anna Banks
Pub. Date: June 2, 2015 | Publisher: Feiwel & Friends
A popular guy and a shy girl with a secret become unlikely accomplices for midnight pranking, and are soon in over their heads—with the law and with each other—in this sparkling standalone from NYT-bestselling author Anna Banks.
It’s been years since Carly Vega’s parents were deported. She lives with her brother, studies hard, and works at a convenience store to contribute to getting her parents back from Mexico.
Arden Moss used to be the star quarterback at school. He dated popular blondes and had fun with his older sister, Amber. But now Amber’s dead, and Arden blames his father, the town sheriff who wouldn’t acknowledge Amber’s mental illness. Arden refuses to fulfill whatever his conservative father expects.
All Carly wants is to stay under the radar and do what her family expects. All Arden wants is to NOT do what his family expects. When their paths cross, they each realize they’ve been living according to others. Carly and Arden’s journey toward their true hearts—and one another—is funny, romantic, and sometimes harsh.
Q & A with Anna Banks
In the length of a tweet (140 characters), tell us about your book.
Pretty in Pink meets Bonnie & Clyde
What is the most embarrassing thing you’ve looked up in the name of research – or what do you think the government has flagged you for?
For OF TRITON, I looked up how to chloroform a person into unconsciousness. Pretty sure I’m on a watch list for that.
Are you working on something new? Can you tell us what’s coming next?
I’m working on an Egyptian based fantasy called NEMESIS right now. Here are the details:
A princess who possesses the power to create energy escapes her father, who wishes to weaponize it, only to be captured by another kingdom where she discovers that her powers could be used to fight a terrible plague.
If you could invite any 5 people to dinner who would you choose, and why?
Edgar Allen Poe to see if he’s as creepy as I think he is.
Jane Austen because I’m a huge fan girl.
Robert Downey Jr because he’s so snarky and snarky amuses me.
Marilyn Manson so I’m not the ugliest person in the room.
Bruce Lee, in case things get out of hand.
If you could have any superpower what would you choose?
I would choose the ability to eat whatever I wanted and have my arch nemesis gain the weight.
What are your pet peeves?
People who don’t get sarcasm. People who cut in line. People who…I guess I don’t like people…?
Tell us your most rewarding experience since being published.
By far, it was making the New York Times bestsellers list with OF TRITON. I was on tour in Las Vegas and I got the email from my editor while we were in the lobby checking into our hotel room. I just started crying right then and there. I had perfect strangers trying to comfort me, but then I was all, “My book made the New York Times!” and they weren’t sad for me anymore.
What’s your favorite quote?
I love a quote by Eleanor Roosevelt: “Women are like tea bags; you never know how strong they are until they get in hot water.”
Do you have any hobbies? Writing doesn’t count!
I honestly love to scare people. I beep at random pedestrians. I jump out of closets wearing creepy clown masks. I sneeze or cough loudly in a library to startle those around me. It’s just my thing.
Do you have any pets?
I have a mini wiener dog named Puckledoo. He’s the sweetest boy ever. J
Are you a social butterfly or a wallflower?
Here is the strange thing: I’m very shy in person. But if you put me on a book panel or in front of a large crowd, you can’t shut me up. I’m completely at ease. Weird?
About Anna Banks
Website | Twitter | Goodreads | Amazon
New York Times Bestselling author of The Syrena Legacy series.
Grew up in a town called Niceville. No, seriously. I graduated from Niceville High School. So did J Lo’s second husband. And the guy that plays Aqua Man on Smallville dated my best friend.
Now I indulge my tendency to lie by writing the lies down and selling them to publishers. Well actually my agent sells it, so she’s an accomplice to lies. One of my lies is called OF POSEIDON. The sequel is called OF TRITON. The last and final installment is OF NEPTUNE, and it released May 13, 2014. Be on the lookout for JOYRIDE, my YA Contemporary out June 2, 2015–Bonnie & Clyde meets Latina Pretty in Pink!
And um. I also write adult fiction under pen name Anna Scarlett. One of the adult lies is DEGREES OF WRONG.
That is all.

I loved The Syrena Legacy! I can only imagine how great this book is going to be!
I can’t wait to read this! I loved the Syrena Legacy so much. The superpower Anna chose has to be one of the most creative one’s I’ve ever seen, haha.
I think I am going to enjoy reading more about these characters.
I’m looking forward to reading this book also because it deals with immigration. Books like these help you to put yourself in other people’s shoes!
Any book that’s a cross between Pretty in Pink and Bonnie and Clyde, I have to read, they’re two of the best movies ever, particularly the lead females.
