What advice would you give to aspiring authors?
If you truly want to be an author, do not give up. Keep reading and writing as much as you can. If anyone in your life tries to bring you down, saying you’ll never get published: IGNORE THEM. Keep working hard.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you “grew up”?
Major League Baseball player
What’s the best writing advice you’ve received?
Becca Fitzpatrick told me that only I know what’s best for my book. If someone makes a suggestion that won’t work for the book, throw it out, no matter who the idea came from.

Out of the Shallows by Samantha Young

Melina Marchetta, Lisa Kleypas, and Sarah Dessen.
Are you working on something new? Can you tell us what’s coming next?
My next book BREATHE, ANNIE, BREATHE is coming out July 2014. I’m super excited about this one! It’s about a girl training to run a marathon in honor of her boyfriend who died. Beyond that, I am starting to work on something I’m tentatively calling HOT LIFEGUARD BOOK.
