Today is the final day of audiobook week, and again I’m sneaking this in at the very last moment :). Audiobook week is hosted by Jen over at Devourer of Books. If you haven’t already you should check out the main event over there for giveaways (going on through the weekend) and a bunch of great posts full of advice and recommendations for newbie listeners.
Today’s topic is resources. I have to say, my number one resource (more like my one and only) for audiobooks is my public library! I am so lucky to have a fantastic library so close to home. They have a fantastic selection of audiobooks… rows of shelves peeps! It’s embarrassing how long I can spend browsing that section. My husband sets time limits on the rare occasion he goes to the library with me :). I usually drag him there while we’re out running errands by telling him I just have to pick something up on hold. Ha!
Another great resource is Overdrive! You can borrow and download audiobooks for FREE to your mobile device (iPhone, Blackberry, Android) or PC. It rocks.
If you’re a newbie to audiobooks, I think your best option is to check out your local library. Audiobooks are expensive to buy, and if you borrow them from the library you have nothing to loose! If you don’t like the narrator or if the book doesn’t do it for you… you can simply return it and try a different one. No money lost :). Through this event this week, I learned of Audiobook Jukebox which is a website dedicated to audiobook reviews so if you’re curious about a particular book you can search for it and read people’s opinions of the book/narrator before buying.
Thanks to Jen for hosting Audiobook week. It’s been fun, and I have added a bunch of audiobooks to my “to-listen” list!
