TGIF is a weekly meme hosted by Ginger over at GReads! It’s a fun way to end the week by recapping posts and answering her question of the week.

This Friday’s question is:

What are some bookish trends you are noticing in the literature world today? Is there a particular trend you’d like to see more of?

Great question! I’m not sure if they just weren’t on my radar before, or if they really are trending, but I’ve been noticing a lot more mysteries/suspense books in the YA genre! I like a really good mystery every once in a while, but I don’t typically seek them out… now I keep seeing them pop up everywhere. Here are some mystery/suspense/thrillers I’m looking forward to reading this spring/summer:

I don’t know if there’s enough coming out to cause a trend, but I would love to see more survival type stories. I’m always fascinated with them because I wonder how I’d react in the character’s situation. There are a ton of dystopian/post-apocalypse books that have to do with survival, but I’d like to see more contemporary/realistic ones. Here are a couple that I’m DYING to read:

What do you think? Is mystery/suspense trending? Are survival type stories up and coming? What book trend would you like to see more of? Inquiring minds want to know! 🙂

Happy Friday! I am seeing The Hunger Games this morning, and I have plans to see it again with a group of peeps tomorrow! I’m so excited – even my husband is excited to see it (SHOCKER)! I’m jealous of those that saw the midnight showing but I’m a wimp and wanted to enjoy it fully awake. Did you see it last night/this morning or will you be seeing it this weekend? More than once? Early viewers, what did you think? Or.. do you *gasp* not plan to see it? Let me know!

  2. I’ve noticed a slight shift in more YA books dealing with mystery & I’m like you.. I wouldn’t normally pick these up, but it’s refreshing to see something different.

As you already know, I saw HG last night at midnight. It was GOOD. I think they down played a lot though (probably to make it more age friendly for the younger crowd). I thought Jennifer Lawrence did an AMAZING job as Katniss. She was probably my favorite aspect of the whole movie. Plus the portrayal of the Capitol was really cool to see on screen. Hope you have fun & enjoy it!!

I LOVED THG movie! I was soooo happy with it… It took me a while to warm up to the actor playing Peeta (never remember his name) but otherwise I thought everything else was pretty perfect. I’m glad it’s been almost a year since I’ve read the book, so I couldn’t pick it apart. I agree that they down played parts, but I was a little relieved for that.

  3. I love seeing more suspense/ mystery/ thrillers YA books. I’m seeing The Hunger Games tonight at 10:30 – both my step-son and I read it so we’re going together.
