Hello my lovely readers! For Colorado Book Month (#COBookMonth), I’ll be participating in the Monday meme, This Colorado Life hosted by Jessi at Otherwhere.Co!
What’s your favorite mountain town? Do you visit for fun, inspiration, nature or something else?
I have a few favorite towns in Colorado, and what drives me to visit is mostly the fantastic scenery… Being surrounded by gorgeous nature, and doing one of my favorite things – hiking!
The first I’ll share with you is based on location (how long it takes to drive there, not long), the scenery, the town, and its peeps —Breckenridge! Commonly called Brek, it’s a ski town, and even as a non-skier I always have a good time. Main street is fun to walk down with all their stores and galleries, and there’s even a crepe stand. Yes, crepes! Also, the people are down to earth and more approachable than say, Aspen or Vail (in my experience).
For stunning scenery and great hiking, I love going to Snowmass. It’s a bit of a drive so I don’t make it there often, but I try to get out there at least once a year. The famous Maroon Bells are just southwest of the village, and though the trails are (not surprisingly) often crowded — especially in the fall when the Aspens are in full color — I look forward to going back just to take it all in again.
Ouray is a fun little mountain town too! It’s nestled in the mountains, and is known as the Switzerland of America. It has its tourist traps, but the scenery is beautiful and it’s easy to walk the town and get to hiking trails right off of main street which is really convenient. I’ve only been once but my hubby and I want to go back and explore the area some more, and visit during different seasons.
What are your favorite towns in Colorado? Or, if you haven’t been here, is there a place you hope to visit?
Just a reminder, our first Twitter party is tomorrow from 9-10AM, we’ll be using the hashtag #COBookMonth… I hope you join us!

I like Estes Park. Cliched, maybe, but the people are so nice the few times we’ve gone there. I was just excited to see the Stanley, but then we explored the town a bit and had a good time. I really, really, really want to make it out to see the Maroon Bells some day. Right now, my littles are a bit too little for the hikes, but we’ll be able to go in the not-too-distant future.

Maroon Bells is probably gonna be our anniversary spot this year! As many places as I’ve been in this state there is no running out of places to explore. I love it!

Breck crepes, from that little train car…we loved them, back before we went g-(gluten)-free. Actually it’s just my wife and daughter who are g-free, I just do it for the solidarity. But they want me to be happy, I’m sure that means more to them than some silly solidarity. And those crepes really made me happy….
Crested Butte is our hands-down favorite mountain town. So quirky and REAL.
