At twenty-two years old, aspiring musician Sydney Blake has a great life: She’s in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her good friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers Hunter cheating on her with Tori—and she is left trying to decide what to do next.
Sydney becomes captivated by her mysterious neighbor, Ridge Lawson. She can’t take her eyes off him or stop listening to the daily guitar playing he does out on his balcony. She can feel the harmony and vibrations in his music. And there’s something about Sydney that Ridge can’t ignore, either: He seems to have finally found his muse. When their inevitable encounter happens, they soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one…
As with all of Colleen Hoover’s books – and I’ve read them all – Maybe Someday gave me ALL THE FEELS. I devoured it within a day while I was traveling back from the east coast. I was a little worried about reading it (and crying) in public, so I tried starting a different book… but I gave in and let myself read Maybe Someday. So yes, it was a given, I cried, and laughed, while reading this in public.
I loved Sydney and Ridge’s story, and how it was told in dual narration. The story is so original… between the incorporation of the music (I totally had to buy the soundtrack by Griffin Peterson), and the dynamics between all the well layered characters, I just can’t say enough good things about Maybe Someday! I can’t remember the last time I felt so conflicted about a story, and I literarily went through the entire gamut of emotions.
I’m not sure I can say that Maybe Someday is my new favorite from Colleen Hoover… I also love SLAMMED and Hopeless just as much, for different reasons. But what I adored about Maybe Someday is that I was blindsided (in the best possible way) by a certain element that I won’t mention here… and it set the book apart from other romances I’ve read in recent years. Yes, there were some cheesy moments, but I ate them up along with all the other goodness. This book has one of the most intimate and loving scenes I’ve ever read, and I loved it. I can’t wait for her next novel, Ugly Love!
