Hello! I recently purchased an Olympus E-PL5 and I’m slowly learning how to use it. I’m a complete newbie, but I thought it’d be fun to share some pictures here.
Meet Hazel, and her filly! I took this picture last weekend at a rescue ranch where I volunteer. I took so many pictures of these two, but this one, which I quickly snapped at an odd crouch and wrist angle, is my favorite. I love the perspective, and really, it was complete luck that I captured it.
Lens: Olympus M. 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 II R
Settings: Aperture priority mode, exposure 1/1600 sec at f/3.5, ISO 200, focal length 14 mm
I feel I should tell a little about Hazel’s back story… Hazel was rescued from being slaughtered. The ranch saved her and when they brought her home, they realized she was pregnant. They weren’t sure if she, or the baby would survive, but they nurtured her back to health and her filly was born healthy. And, BOTH have been adopted and they moved into their new loving home this past week! How awesome is that? It makes me warm and fuzzy every time I think about it!

Amazing photo! What settings did you use, and what kind of lens? Guess you have a passion for horses just like I do with birds.

Thank you so much! I updated the post to include lens/settings, and here they are:
Lens: Olympus M. 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 II R
Settings: Aperture priority mode, exposure 1/1600 sec at f/3.5, ISO 200, focal length 14 mm
I’m still too afraid to shoot in complete manual mode… but one day maybe! I plan to take classes (if they’d stop being cancelled on me).

For a beginner with your new camera I’d say you look like a pro. I love the picture and the back story.

That is a perfect picture!
That is a beautiful photo – you’re doing better than me. I just got a Nikon D3100, but it’s taking me a while to get to rips with it. My pictures today were taken on my old camera, where you just point and shoot,(which was ideal in the crowds today) but the Nikon does much better quality pictures. Very creative. Love that you’ve taken it from down low – really ads power to the subjects.
Have a great week.

Aw that’s wonderful! There’s a horse rescue right up the road from my mom’s house in Florida. Such a wonderful place for horses in need. So glad mama and babe found a home!! And what a lovely photo of them. The angle is really nice 🙂
